Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to year 1. This is an important stepping stone for the children where they move away from play based learning, as experienced in Reception, and begin to experience a more formal approach. The children settle into this very quickly as we use a mix of hands on practical experiences alongside the more formal.
Mrs Reed works Monday and Tuesday and loves nothing more than a pamper or a trip to Costa with her family.
Mrs Tyrell works Wednesday to Friday and loves being outdoors as much as possible; planting and growing a variety of plants and vegetables in her garden.
Mrs Wilson works all week with us and loves hiking in the Lake District.
Mrs Dobinson works with us every morning and enjoys spending time at her allotment.
In art we have been using our senses to explore a seaside painting. The children then worked in groups to add texture to a painting. They thought really hard about which materials would match the texture.
For science day we investigated and named trees in our school grounds. We then used natural materials to make our own trees.
For World Book Day, we brought a favourite story in from home to share with a friend.
In DT we made our own puppets based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
Stories we have enjoyed reading together this year;
Titch by Pat Hutchins
