A trip to Durham Cathedral – October 2023

The children visited Durham Cathedral as part of their RE work, where they have been learning about why people visit the Cathedral. During their visit, they had a tour of the Cathedral, discussing important aspects of it and the different structural designs. They learnt about the importance of St Cuthbert and St Bede and visited their tombs to look at how pilgrims visit each year to pay their respects. The girls and boys performed drama pieces about the life of Cuthbert and took on some of the challenges that he may have faced during his life time.

A residential trip to York ~ February 2024

The children took a trip to York to find out more about its Viking history! They enjoyed seeing parts of the underground house in Jorvik, and also learning about all of the skills that the Viking people had. The ride proved a popular part of the day, where the children got to imagine what it was like to be a real Viking and see a village that included things to touch, see and smell. During our DIG experience, we learnt about the job of an archaeologist and the process involved in a dig, before we were given the opportunity to do an excavation of our very own.

We stayed overnight in York YHA, where we also took part in a variety of Viking workshops and played lots of team games. We all had an absolutely fantastic time!
